Symbolism of Indigo Hill

Symbolism of Indigo Hill

How did I come up with the name Indigo Hill? Good question, So many people have asked, so I figured I would share the story behind it.

At first, I wanted something that would use the word “Adventure” and something to describe my laser. After late-night talks with so many people, I couldn’t come up with anything that sounded right. I didn’t want it to be too geared toward my laser, in case my business shifts into something else over time. I didn’t want to include my name, because again, you never know what the future holds. Every thought I had, I shot down because I didn’t love it, so I kept procrastinating the start of my business venture.

Finally, after many different conversations, I tried to take a different approach to it. Instead of “Adventure,” I just thought about different things in nature that were tied to personal adventures that I loved, waterfalls, mountains, streams, etc. When I mentioned this to my sister, who is a botanist, she sent me a list of plants that were native to Nebraska. Among the list were various trees, grasses, and flowers. The only one that stuck out to me was Indigo. I have always loved the color blue, and basically any cool color for that matter. Blues, greens, and purples were, and still are, my favorite colors. From there, I fell in love with the idea of using something that was native to Nebraska. It was a bonus that it was also a pretty color that could be used as a descriptive word.

We grew up just outside of town on a hill (crazy, right?), and my sister and I always played outside. All of my earliest adventures come from exploring the grove of trees and playing out on the hill. As we got older, we inherited a go-cart from my older cousins and that thing was our life for a few years. We were out there so much, we knew where every foxhole was and which trail would give our friends the biggest scare. We would explore the grove and find mushrooms and animal bones and climb over all the fallen trees. That was the time of our lives. Every kid deserves to be let loose and explore nature. Those hills were where my love of adventure blossomed.

There is so much meaning to me in those two seemingly random words. Thus, Indigo Hill became the name and one of my favorite adventures.

Happy Adventuring, Hannah
